Know the Myths on Spider Veins

You may hear some information here and there about spider veins. If you have the condition, and you want to deal with those awful spider veins, you wouldn’t want to be misled in beleiving something that is, in fact, fallacious. Help yourself by first knowing what is factual about the condition before you are to make any actions.

Myth : A cream very rich in an anticoagulant Vitamin K will definitely clear out spider veins.

Fact : Most people that use Vitamin K creams see there spider veins lighten and in some cases completely go away. But remember, everyone’s body type is unique. Genreally, you will start to see results around 6 weeks.

Myth : Tanning gets rid of spider veins.

Fact : It darkens your skin color making them harder to see, but they are never gone. In fact, if you lay in tanning beds too much it will raise your chances of getting them by 34%.

Myth : Spider veins only affect females.

Truth : Both men and women are affected by spider veins. They can happen to all types of race, and age groups. Even though they are more frequent on adults they can even appear on young adults.

Myth : Only old people get the condition.

Truth : Young or old, spider veins can affect anyone. But here’s the thing – the older you are, the easier you can get them. Most women start to develop them in there late twenties and men in there early forties.

Myth : You can prevent spider veins for the rest of your life.

Truth : You can do all the right things and still develop spider veins and here is the reason. Weak veins are hereditary if your mother has weak veins you probably will too. If you do have weak veins you are 72% more likely to develop spider veins in some parts of your body.

Myth : My insurance will cover the spider vein treatment .

Truth : Only about 8 percent of insurances do cover the treatments. Since they are not life threatening they are looked at as purely cosmetic non life threatening.

Myth : They can be cause a greater health problem.

Truth : They are for sure annoying, embarrassing, and bothersome but they are in no way harmful.

Myth : Elevating your feet can reduce the risk of getting them.

Truth : This is never true. Elevating your feet feels good but it really doesn’t do much but help you relax. But, standing for long periods of time can contribute to their formation so avoiding that as much as possible can keep you from developing them.

Myth : They are caused by a disease.

Truth : They can be passed down through genetics. If your mother has them you are twice more likely to get spider veins. There are preventive measures you can take to help fight them but most of the time, you cannot prevent genetics to surface.
